MCINTYRE, E.J. (Greg)

Greg, beloved life-partner and husband of Valerie for 50 years, father of Sara, Jacob and Emily McIntyre, brother of Dan, Carol, Johnny and Jimmy (d. 2017) McIntyre, father-in-law to Emily’s husband, Eduardo Sirtori, grandpa to Santiago, brother-in- law to Valerie’s siblings, Brent, Dean and Pamela (née) Brocklebank, cousin to Maureen, Rod, Pam, Edward and Richard Ryan, and to Coleen, Michael and Nancy (née) Walker, died peacefully at home in the company of his wife and kids.

Greg met Valerie at UBC where his study of anthropology and English literature set the stage for his 40-year career as a reporter, columnist and desk editor at daily newspapers in Kamloops, Prince George, Lethbridge and Calgary, concluding with 28 years at the Vancouver Province.

Greg’s interest in people, their stories and their culture inspired his eclectic reading, his passion for photography, and his many friendships with writers, art lovers, photographers, sports fans, political- and natural-health activists and community builders.

He loved playing tennis, playing and refereeing basketball and listening to music from classical to country – a taste acquired in his early years during summer work at the Douglas Lake Ranch and logging on the coast.

Greg was a great conversationalist, remembered for his integrity, kindness and great sense of humour. He is deeply missed by his family and friends.
